Giving stock or a mutual fund that you have owned for at least a year that has increased in value can be a very smart way to support the mission of St. Theresa’s. Much of the same income tax savings may be available to you for donating stock as they are for writing a check, but giving your appreciated stock may also allow you to eliminate the capital gains taxes that would be due if you sold it yourself. St. Theresa’s will get the full value of your stock, and you may also be entitled to a federal income tax charitable deduction based on the stock’s value on the date transferred.
Please call us before making your gift. The instructions to share with your broker are below:
Including St. Theresa Parish in your Will can lower the taxable amount of your estate and, at the same time, provide support to the parish. Should you decided to include the parish in your Will, please use the following codicil and forward it to your attorney: “I bequeath the sum of $ ______ or ____ percentage of the residual of my estate to St. Theresa Catholic Church, located at 4311 Small Drive, Austin, TX 78731, for the benefit of St. Theresa Catholic Church.”
We encourage you to remember St. Theresa Catholic Church in your will. Thank you.
Did you know that you may be able to give from your IRA to St. Theresa Church and save money at the same time? There are different options depending on your age. For example, when you turn 72, the transferred funds may begin counting toward your required minimum distribution (RMD) and you pay no income taxes on the gift. This could also lower your taxable annual income level which could result in lower Medicare premiums and the amount of Social Security subject to taxes.
A donor-advised fund (DAF) is a dedicated charitable investment account that donors use to manage their charitable giving. It can help donors maximize their tax benefits, contribute a wide array of assets, and plan their charitable support, growing impact to new levels. Investment firms such as Fidelity Charitable and Charles Schwab Charitable offer DAF accounts through which charitable donations to St. Theresa Catholic Church may be directed, oftentimes directly through electronic funds transfer. Your investment firm can assist you with setting up a DAF or you may contact Geneva Moore in the parish business office at 512-451-5121 x1003, or geneva@st-theresa.org for assistance.
