What is a spiritual director?
A spiritual director is a person who has been called by God and trained to serve as a companion to another person on his or her spiritual journey. Spiritual direction is more about asking the questions than about giving the answers. A spiritual director helps us listen and respond to the action of the Holy Spirit in our lives. He or she also assists us by fostering our relationships with God and with our fellow human beings, enabling these relationships to deepen and grow.
How do I discern whether I need a spiritual director?
Are you feeling the need to talk with someone about your spiritual needs or your spiritual journey? Perhaps you are at a crossroads in your life and need to discern God’s will for your future. If so, you might benefit from receiving spiritual direction. Spiritual direction is the art of Christian listening. It is a sacred relationship in which the director assists individuals in discerning the path in which God is leading them in their lives. The real director is the Holy Spirit.
