Liturgy of the Word with Children

Liturgy of the Word with Children (LWWC) is offered during the 9 a.m. Sunday Mass for children in Kinder through 5th grades. Younger children are welcome to attend if accompanied by a parent.

LWWC follows the same rhythm and purpose as the Liturgy of the Word and is considered as participating fully in Mass for leaders and children alike. A team of prayer leaders guides the children to the Family Center to proclaim the Scriptures from an approved text especially for children, and the Psalm and Gospel Acclamation are sung. The prayer leaders help the children discover for themselves what God is saying and how to live the Gospel message. The children profess their faith, offer Prayers of the Faithful and then return to their families for the Liturgy of the Eucharist. 

Please consider contributing to this beautiful ministry in some way.  Here are some roles available for the various teams. Each team will serve on one Sunday per month (one team the first Sunday, one team the second Sunday, and so on).

• Prayer Leader: Participate fully in mass with children in K-5th Grade by bringing the children to their own chapel in our Family Center.  They proclaim the Liturgy of the Word and relate the Gospel to the children at their level, and lead the children through the Creed & Prayers of the Faithful.  
• Assistant Prayer Leader: Participate fully in mass with children in K-5th Grade by bringing the children to their own chapel in our Family Center. Assist with the Liturgy of the Word and relate the Gospel to the children at their level, and lead the children through the Creed & Prayers of the Faithful.  Leads when the main prayer leader is out for the week.
• Lector: Participate fully in mass with children in K-5th Grade. Reads the readings from the lectionary aloud (1st/2nd Reading, Psalm, Gospel). Assists with management of the children in attendance. 
• Shepherd: Participate fully in mass with children in K-5th Grade. Perfect for a parent attending with a child who is on the younger side. Help guide the children from the church to the Family Center, assist with crowd management, and guide the children back to the sanctuary again.
